We had been happy customers for years but unfortunately our recent experience has been very disappointing. Last week, we received email notification that our regularly scheduled Wednesday pickup was being moved to Thursday as they were unable to complete all the scheduled pickups that day. This has happened once or twice before since their move from Hartford to Southington. It's a small inconvenience but we understand issues come up and it was not a big deal.
However, they never actually showed up on Thursday to complete the rescheduled pickup. Our bin was outside from before 8 am until nearly 7 pm that day when we noticed it had not been picked up. At that point we contacted them but they were closed for the day.
On Friday they replied to our email stating the employee had marked our pickup as complete and they "have no way to check" whether or not they actually picked up the bin, implying that we were lying about not having the bin picked up??
Rather than coming out to pick up the bin in a timely manner, the only solution they offered to address their mistake was for us to either wait until the following Wednesday when they are in our area again, OR we could drive 50+ miles round trip to their facility and drop off the bin ourselves. Keep in mind they are only open weekdays during standard office hours, so we would have had to take time out of our work days to drop it off. As a result we had to figure out how to store an entire bin full of compost for an extra week due to their mistake.
We communicated with two different employees and both refused to offer a refund for their missed pickup. In other words they chose not to make up for their error, deprioritizing customer service and retention in favor of keeping the $15 we paid for the week's pickup. In doing so they have soured our feelings about the company and we are considering cancelling.
It's not about the $15, it's about the failure to take responsibility for their error and provide an appropriate resolution. We used to rave about Blue Earth and now will be telling our friends about this disappointing experience.

I’ve used blue earth compost services for several years now in a few different locations. They’ve been great to work with, timely with pickups, and really helpful when I had a request to compost leftover food from a big event! Highly recommend.

Blue Earth Compost has been great. They come on time to pick up the contents of the green bucket, leave a new bag and communicate as needed in a timely fashion. It is wonderful to recycle our food scraps and to know they are going to be used for good.

For what they are providing 5 stars isn't enough, and now West Hartford is working with them again on drop off areas for food waste. So bravo to both for finding solutions to help the earth.

I too have a backyard compost bin but with every increasing bear problem I use it mostly for garden refuse and some non- bear attracting veggie scraps. Several years ago I started using Blue Earth. I can compare a lot more including fruit , meat and fish scraps and bones. Like all my food waste. Between Blue Earth and recycling, I only send one small kitchen bad go trash to a landfill somewhere.

I’ve been using Blue Earth in Hartford for about 8 years or so, great service. I’ve happily recommended them to friends and local businesses. If you’re on the fence about signing up, just do it! They make it so easy to be more sustainable. Plus, no more smelly trash!

I’ve been a customer of Blue Earth Compost for the last 4 years and have absolutely loved it. They have created such an easy and affordable way to compost, decreasing the frequency that I need to take out the trash as well as my carbon footprint. You can get some compost/soil back as part of your plan and it has been great for my little garden. The staff members are so friendly and are willing to be flexible to work around travel schedules etc. I cannot recommend them higher!
