Hi, so I’m not your typical customer of Future Acres but wanted to give a massive shout out to Dave for his amazing help. My daughter has a pet spider and, now that it’s getting to be cold out, we are having trouble finding insects to feed him. I picked up some feeder insects from a pet store only to discover that the spider is high maintenance and refuses them. He’s used to a fly and ant diet, I guess. I was trying to figure out how one acquires flies willingly when I came across the Future Acres website that talked about their Black Soldier Flies. I called Dave and explained Captain Webbs’ highly refined palate and, thankfully, was not the first looking for flies as pet food. I stopped by and Dave had sorted out the larvae into two stages – those that were closer to becoming flies and those that still have time. I wasn’t sure if the good Captain would be willing to eat fly larvae so I appreciated receiving a variety of options. (Spoiled spider would not touch the larvae). At this point, we have not had a fly hatch but have separated out one pupae that is in the final stage so that we will be ready to offer it up not quite on a silver platter. I have been separating out the larvae so that I have a container when they finally reach pupae stage. The challenging part of this is that they are quite easily startled and freeze for a good amount of time. I solved that by setting up a time lapse camera and then laying out the larvae in rows and then going back to see which ones had moved. I’ll update again once we have a fly to offer Captain Webbs.

I have used the frass for fertilizer this year. My plants never looked so good! I like the regenerative aspects of the frass, and it’s super easy to apply.

I love that Dave and his crew at Future Acres pick up my compost weekly and brings them back in bags of frass compost, which my garden and trees love. My trash output has decreased by more than 50% since I started the compost pickup with Future Acres.

Very informative about the process. I picked up some bsfl for my reptiles. I am looking forward to seeing more to come with this business and definitely plan to support it. Thank you!

Future Acres is fantastic. Dave has been picking up our food scraps and magically transforming them into compost for the last 3 years or so. Not only does composting help reduce our household waste, but it helps the environment too. Bonus – he gives all his customers a bag of compost to use in their spring gardens every year. I would highly recommend their services for anyone looking to use a compost service.

Future Acres is a wonderful composting service. They are very responsive and make composting so easy. We had a home compost but decided to try the service and it’s been amazing because we can compost so much. We have reduced our garbage immensely. I can’t recommend highly enough.

Edit to update: Future Acres, as promised they would when they could, are ramping up their compost give back, which is super exciting for us gardeners! Thankful to have found a reliable composting service.
Though I wish food composting/pick up was a county provided service as I believe it should be implemented more widely, until that time comes, I’m happy to compost with Future Acres. They don’t miss a pick up, and it has been great getting compost back to use in the garden.
